Switch on to Radio Addlestone

Posted by Brooklands FM on Aug 21, 08 10:36 AM in

LOCAL radio for YOUR town is back full-time as north-west Surrey community station Brooklands FM begins a new 24-hour service on the internet at www.brooklandsfm.co.uk.
With local news, views, interviews, musicians and sport, all based around great popular music, Brooklands FM claims to offer the truly local radio service for Addlestone, Byfleet, Chertsey, Shepperton, Walton, West Byfleet, Weybridge and surrounding towns that the bigger regional stations can't give. The station supports the Sam Beare Hospice, in Weybridge.

The new programmes, for the time being on the internet only, come from a studio provided by the Cosmic Electricals store, in Addlestone and run from 9am on Saturday August 23 until the end of the year.
To give an even better local news service Brooklands FM has teamed up with the district's leading local papers, the Surrey Herald, the Staines News and The Informer.
Every Wednesday journalists from the papers will look at the top stories and how local people could be affected, helping listeners and the papers' readers know about and perhaps influence decisions that affect them.
A Brooklands FM spokesman said: 'We're really excited about our exclusive tie-up with the region's top local papers and feel we can complement the service we each provide to the benefit of readers and listeners - often the same people.
'There are so many local matters people want to hear about and have some say in - wheelie bins, parking, speed cameras, pot-holes, policing, pub hours, hospital cleanliness and shopping developments to name a few - and our new partnership with the Herald & News titles will help them do that.
'Our new 24-hour internet service following our earlier broadcasts in the past two years is the next big step on our way towards becoming the licensed Community Radio station on FM for this part of Surrey and we are immensely grateful to Cosmic Electricals for kindly providing our studio space.'

How can BrooklandsFM use the term FM when they are not even broadcasting on the FM Band and how come they claim that they are back full time when they can obviously only broadcast during shop opening hours, bit of a take on if you ask me. They should leave it to the only station that does broadcast 24/7 and has been doing so for the past 43 years Radio Wey.

I totally agree with the previous comment. This new station advertises that they broadcast on 87.7 and they don't even have a transmitter. Doh!

They also leave people to believe that Sir Cliff Richard has been interviewed by them. No Sir Cliff was interviewed by Radio Wey FM when they broadcast a couple of years ago. Radio Wey can still be heard on the Internet I understand. www.radiowey.co.uk.

How these other people at Brooklands can be fraudulent in this way I fail to understand.
