Police Neighbourhood Meeting

Surrey Police are holding a neighbourhood policing team meeting, in Addlestone on Wednesday November 5, from 6.30pm.
Being held at the Community Centre on Garfield Road, it is an opportunity for people to come and raise any issues that are affecting the community.

Tesco plans go on view

Tesco are set to hold an exhibition at the store in Station Road, Addlestone, to outline their plans for a car park extension.

The controversial plans to add an extra layer onto the car park were met with strong opposition when they were first submitted in July last year.

The company withdrew the application two months later and is now set to resubmit it, and will show residents the plans from Wednesday October 15.

The Princess Alice Hospice 'Look Good Feel Great' patient makeover day on Friday 10 of October saw project partner and world famous hairdresser Trevor Sorbie and the FAMOUS make up team return to host a day of patient pampering. The event held to coincide with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on Saturday 11 October comes very soon after the incredible success of a visit from Trinny and Susannah on September 24.

On Saturday 6 September, Jonathan Perkins, Trustee of the Princess Alice Hospice led by example as he took part in the Hospice's first Midnight Walk, he also encouraged two other trustees Lynn Gilbert and Jenny Provin to join him and make up a team called 'The Alice Band'.

Darley Dene School in Garfield Road, Addlestone are holding a planting day on Monday, October 20.

As part of the Bulb Blitz, parents and teachers will be planting bulbs in the shape of a daffodil maze, so that when spring comes, the children will be able to use the maze.

Following the school's near closure last Decemeber, the aim of the day is to create some longstanding flower arrangements, that can be enjoyed by the children in the years to come.

River of coins will make water safe

The idea was make a river of coins from the altar to the church door to raise money for safe drinking water for the world's poorest countries.

addlestone-muslim-centre-13.jpgAlbert Road residents stormed out of a Runnymede planning meeting after losing a battle to stop Surrey Islamic Trust from building a mortuary in their street.

Objectors wrote 84 letters of objection against the Trust's plan to add a cold store room, toilet and washroom to its education centre in Albert Road, Addlestone, but councillors voted 14-1 to permit the scheme.

francesca-southworth-1-15.jpgAddlestone mum of two Francesca Southworth has completed an exhausting trip through the Andes to raise more than £5,000 for the Alzheimer's Society.

The 43-year-old of Wheatash Road, took part in the five day trek in Peru in September to help Alzheimer's sufferers like her mother Maria Crowder, who was diagnosed with the fatal brain disease in 2000.

Duke opens £12m Civic Offices

duke-1-15.jpgRunnymede Council's £12m new Civic Offices received royal approval when it was officially opened by the Duke of Gloucester Thursday (October 9).

The Queen's cousin and grandson of George V was taken on a tour of the offices in Station Road, which have been open to the public since March, and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

Five men arrested after dawn raids

Five men, including an Addlestone man, have been charged with conspiracy to burgle following a series of dawn raids.

Ben Cheeseman, 21, of Elizabethan Close, Stanwell, Robert Green, 28, of Copperfield Rise, Addlestone, Scott Anderson, 23, of Adelaide Road, Ashford, Mark Beagley, 21, of Stanwell Close, Stanwell, and William Patterson, 25, of St Mary's Crescent, Stanwell, all appeared before Staines magistrates on Wednesday October 8.

The were all remanded in custody and are due to appear before Kingston Crown Court on Monday October 20
The charges follow police raids on Tuesday October 7 at addresses in Addlestone, Ashford, Egham, Shepperton, Stanwell, Sunbury, Wraysbury, Hounslow, Crawley and Chichester.
