River of coins will make water safe
Pupils at St Paul's C of E Primary School began laying 1p and 2p coins along the aisle of St Paul's Church in a bid to create a river of coins.
The idea was make a river of coins from the altar to the church door to raise money for safe drinking water for the world's poorest countries.
The cash raised in the event at the end of September will be sent to WaterAid, an international charity whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
Karen Goodlake, church warden and youth group leader, said: "The children at the school have been learning about the work that Water Aid do and learning about how different people live around the world.
"The children and their friends and families have all been donating their coins to the appeal and we hope we can get the river running all the way to the door."
Donations to the river can still be made by adding copper coins to the line of money already at St Paul's Church, which is in Church Road, Addlestone.
