The Mayor of Runnymede is getting ready to turn on Addlestone's Christmas lights.

Being held on Saturday, November 29, the Mayor, Cllr Jim Broadhead will be joined by choirs and the Salvation Army band, to light up Addlestone.

The focus of the lights will be on the Tesco roundabout, on Station Road, where four Christmas trees are placed and will be decked with seasonal colours.

Being turned on by between 3.45pm and 4.00pm, money for the event has come from local traders and the Addlestone Chamber of Commerce, who help provide time and effort each year.

Mayoress and Chairman of the the Chamber, Cllr Peggy Broadhead said: "The Chamber of Commerce thanks very much the local traders who have given time and money to enable us to have these Christmas lights again this year. "Thanks also go to Runnymede Borough Council, Tesco, and Powercor Electrical Services of Ottershaw who free of charge connected the LED lights to an energy saving timer."

As well as the Salvation Army band, Weybridge Male Voice Choir and the Addlestone singers will be performing carols and church choir songs.

CAMPAIGNERS who spent two years lobbying the council for a pedestrian crossing have reacted angrily to a delay in building it.

Residents and traders in Green Lane, Addlestone petitioned Surrey County Council in September for a crossing after a series of accidents in the road.

But work on the puffin crossing, which was due to be finished on December 12, has been delayed because energy company EDF cannot confirm when they will be able to install lights for the crossing.
