Community service drivers will give up Christmas dinner with their families to drive lonely elderly people to the Salvation Army festivities at Addlestone Community Centre.

John Clack, from Addlestone, Alan Simpson, from Knaphill, Woking, Bob Cooke, from Woking, and their wives are collecting people from Egham, Addlestone/Chertsey and from Englefield Green areas respectively on Christmas Day.

He received the prize after becoming the 5,000th customer to subscribe to the council's kerbside scheme that takes away green garden rubbish.

The 5th Addlestone scout group have tickets to sell for Aladdin at the Victoria Theatre in Woking.

The group which are based at the Methodist Church Hall in Station Road, have tickets for the 7.30pm performance of the pantomime on Monday, January 5.

Tickets costs £20 per person and are available through fundraiser, Michael West.

A Christmas concert has raised over £600 for Age Concern Runnymede.

The concert was held on Sunday, December 20, at Christ the Prince of Peace Church in Portmore Way, Weybridge.

Money was being raised to help provide Age Concern Runnymede with a new mini bus, which are used to take the elderly of the borough on outings.

NEARLY 20 different prize winners were revealed on Monday December 8 as the 5th Addlestone Scouts' raffle was drawn.

John Neale, vice president of Runnymede Scout Association drew 18 winners, including two who won a five course Christmas lunch on the Orient Express for two.

Other prizes included gift vouchers, hampers, and other festive gifts including Christmas puddings, cakes and crackers.

Addlestone Community Association is doing a pantomime production of Old Mother Hubbard in January next year.

Performances will be on January 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7.45pm with afternoon shows on January 17, 18 and 24 at the Community Centre in Garfield Road.

Tickets cost £9 for adults and £7 for children and are available from J Golding newsagent in Station Road, Addlestone.

Woman injured in crash

A woman in her 50s suffered minor injuries after a single car collision in Brighton Road, Addlestone on Wednesday December 10.

An ambulance was called at about 7pm and the woman was taken to St Peter's Hospital but later released.

Pensioners targeted by burglars

Two pensioners were targeted in distraction burglaries at sheltered housing in Addlestone on the afternoon of Monday December 3.

Both victims live in Darley Dene Court, in Garfield Road, one of them had £500 stolen, but the other was lucky enough not to lose anything.

The burglaries took place when two men, claiming to be workmen were let in, after the pensioners did not check for identification.
