Obama inaugural inspires American-flavoured debate
Students in year 10 at Jubilee High School in Addlestone have been taking a keen interest in American politics as part of their history lessons.
The 14 and 15-year-olds had lively debates last week to tie in with the American elections and produced their own inaugural speeches based on the ideas of former president Franklin D Roosevelt.
The speeches were all marked by staff and Olivia Blanco was awarded the presidency after delivering the best speech, with Ryan Ottley-Booth and Preeti Mohindru the two vice presidents.
History teacher Susan Jones said: "I would really like to congratulate all the students who really made a great effort to get into the spirit of the occasion.
"Well done to all of them. It was a fiercely fought competition with only one mark between the eventual winners."
